The idea of a blog, i think, is to talk about things done, thought about and maybe things planned : not though to talk about things thought about, planned and still not done. Its really nice here aside from the pollen (imagine me sneezing at the screen) and with time off for good behaviour at work i should be out there sailing and right now probably heading out for the first of the rivers to the east of Plymouth and with 2 full clear weeks should have been aiming for the Erme and the Dart, the Exe and then maybe Poole…could have…..should have : didn’t !. The problem is mainly that i can’t sit comfortably for any long period except for in my super comfy desk chair and i can’t really fit that in the cockpit ! so sailing is off the menu for a while yet.
The thing that did happen instead is that we came up with a cunning plan in place of sailing and so instead of that we are heading up to the lakes to a great campsite just on Windermere : going to have a ‘pod’ for a few nights and then maybe use a tent for a few. I did of course include boats in the plan as there are at least 2 boats in North Wales that i want to see and that is a short diversion on a long drive north….well i would be making a short diversion except that one of the boat owners has disappeared off cyber space entirely and the other seems to have zero communication skills such that i really can’t be bothered to deal with him. Instead what we might do is morph the trip into a longer road trip and go see some of the other boats now and just have a break away from here. I might go and see the little Dehler over in essex and maybe a boat or 2 on the south coast as well.
It does seem that nobody wants to communicate though except for 1 sadler owner right up in Glasgow who sent me a copy of his boat’s survey, sounds nice but its on the pricey side even with a trailer. The specialist broker doesn’t even want to talk to me about sadlers and their keels even when there is a possibility that i might see boats via his brokerage……seems odd.
Meanwhile diet and training continue on a very ‘upsy-downsy’ kind of basis with a grim workout mid-week and a much better one today. I am sticking with the ‘diet’ pretty well but might have a super treat dinner out next week as the amazing ‘Lucy’s’ in Ambleside…..rude not to.
Peter Cash writes : “Good to hear you are on the mend. Wabi will still there waiting when you finish your road trip. The latter is always so much more fun with boaty side trips.
Just hanging around a boatyard is therapy for me.”
My Edit : I always try and arrange road trips such that boatyards and coastal towns are involved : great fun in France as the towns are usually a treat as well. Quick check on WABI”’ today and she is sitting pretty on her mooring.
