Random toxicity.

I think I am becoming, or already have become, a grumpy old man !.

In fact, when I am driving and my partner is riding shotgun she often describes me as a “grumpy c**t” but it’s her car so I guess she gets away with that one and to be honest she’s right because I am aware of what used to be an inner sound track or commentary of what other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are doing has now gone fully external. This morning I think I may have sounded a bit like one of the Youtube channels I follow where it’s owner and producer basically goes about his job , mostly driving around London and continually comments on the stupidity he sees seemingly every day….given that he’s able to put out a 20 minute video of stupid driving at least twice a week there must be a lot of it about.

On the other hand, last week were having a fairly relaxed drive into town and having a serious conversation about the overall level of annoyance that we both experience – my partner still works in the NHS so what she gets , day after day, is a level of management opinionated stupidity that really would warrant it’s own Youtube channel. One of my conclusions is that I am made angrier than I need to be on a daily basis because of the amount of time I spend on the internet and were it not for the fact that i’m trying to put out positive content, and now short but positive video’s I would be taking a long break from the internet right now.

Anyway, this post starts with a question so…..

What do you consider to be THE most important thing to have happened in the last few days, weeks, months and years ?….and no, i’m not talking about the coronation chicken.

Right now, in fact as I write, my partner has gone down to the village to take in the street party that’s going on while i’m at home working on tonight’s dinner, several posts and odd bits of boat detailing. Just for a joke I was going to wander down to the party in a chicken outfit but this is Cornwall so most of the villagers probably wouldn’t get the joke and anyway I am deeply asocial and I can’t stand the idea of organized happiness. Given the level of alcoholism in this part of Cornwall it’s likely to just turn into a booze-filled ruck anyway.

So no, I don’t regard the coronation of Charles as something important, special or noteworthy and I certainly won’t be swearing some oath of allegiance. Here’s a little taste of my toxic cynicism though – the Charles formerly known as Prince is reckoned to have a personal worth of some £1.8 Billion GBP having just inherited £500 million from his late mother. Now, I live in Cornwall – technically the Duchy of Cornwall and at one point in my life lived in Wales ; both of those regions you could say were his official fiefdoms and yet both of those regions have the highest rates of poverty, alcoholism, crime and drug use in the UK…..go figure.

It’s been a bad week and even worse month for my toxic cynicism but then iv’e also slightly run out of practical work at home and on the boat to occupy my mind and keep me away from things that make me genuinely angry : not first by any means but we had the coronation chicken as I now think of the artist formerly known as Prince. Directly alongside that we had the Metropolitan Police abusing their powers as is normal and the British Parliament rushing through legislation to cover their (the plod’s) backs. It’s mostly the British parliament and then an American corporation that iv’e been seriously angry with this month so…..

The obvious answer to my rhetorical question is of course that it has been the Covid 19 Pandemic and our legislated and mandated response that has to be thought of as the most important event of the last few years. I might be wrong (sorry Ukraine) if a certain comrade Putin finally goes completely ham and decides to nuke us all or in some other way cause a genuine global catastrophe – perhaps by cosying up to that bastion of freedom and democracy…..China that is.

Last month an elected member of parliament (Andrew Bridgen) stood up in the house of commons to give a speech and present genuine scientific evidence about the level of vaccine injury and the non effectiveness of the Covid 19 vaccines to prevent hospitalization ; fair enough you might say because it’s an important subject and the actual science seems to be leaning that way. The strange and despicable thing that happened though is that most members simply walked out of the house of commons and in fact there was video footage of one member from one side of the house crossing to the other and seemingly instructing them to also leave.

Then, even more recently, in another despicable move the Conservative party kicked Mr Bridgen out on seemingly trumped-up accusation of him being an anti-Semite despite the fact that representatives of English Judaism having no complaint with him. Frankly it stinks of someone somewhere being pressured to silence Andrew Bridgen because of his stance on Covid 19 and particularly vaccines and vaccine injuries. It’s almost as though someone important is getting a back-hander from someone at Pfizer or Moderna….perish the thought that there might be some corruption going on.

And then it got worse !

One of the principal characters that I often mention here is fellow nurse ‘Dr’ John Campbell because he, like me, had one mindset in the early days of the pandemic and subsequent lockdown but rapidly and publicly changed his stance as soon as the evidence started to stack up against what our governments, our press and the pharmaceutical giants were saying. My first ‘scratch-head’ moment came on the heels of the mandating of masks and when it was claimed that they were necessary to protect us from an airborne or droplet virus. Well, i’m not a microbiologist but I was taught basic microbiology over 40 years ago and the simple science of virus particles vs paper (or cotton) masks is still the same but whatever….they were forced on us.

I actually had one hilarious moment when I was sat in the car outside the local supermarket and watching ‘mask’ behaviour – one woman came out the store with a mask on, closed her hand over the mask and stuffed it into her pocket and then with the same hand energetically rubbed her face. It’s the kind of thing that a theatre sister (operating theatre that is) would have soundly bollocked a student nurse who did that in her sight. There were lots of moments like that .

Anyway, John Campbell started to review the actual evidence as soon as it came available and we all got to ride along by looking over his shoulder as he presented the evidence and that evidence became damning but set against a strident pro-vaccine media and genuine, for real censorship by the tech companies who own and control the main social media sites. That the mainstream media lied and meekly trotted out the ‘correct’ narrative in this country and abroad was predictable and obvious but the wholesale censorship of debate and dissent in supposedly free countries was a total shock.

And so recently…..John Campbell hosted the elected member of parliament (Andrew Bridgen) to have a serious discussion about several aspects of the vaccines, vaccine injuries and so on. Bridgen, by the way is not only an elected MP but perhaps the only British MP to have earned a science degree and his later ‘crime’ seems to have been to hit the British parliament with point after researched point and it seems that their response was first to attack him and then to throw him out of the party. I would suggest that the utterly disgraceful thing is that of most members of parliament either simply not being bothered enough to turn up for the debate or by walking out of the house like so many stroppy teenagers. I wonder how many other people have asked their local MP about their actions that day.

What happened next is that Youtube took down that video and then gave him a community ‘strike’ for apparently spreading (and I quote) ”medical misinformation” which means that a Californian corporation, not even their elected government but basically a private company can decide what is to be taken as fact and what can be discarded or labeled as disinformation. Doesn’t that just sound a teensy-weensy bit condescending and Orwellian to you ?.

So….In the mother of all Parliaments basically get up and walk out when a major topic, perhaps THE most major topic, is to be discussed and yet you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be a full house next time MP’s pay is debated. There are days when i’m really ashamed by my own government but equally there are more days when my near toxic level of cynicism just says ‘situation normal’.

This week and this month I could have started pretty well anywhere and ended up at the same point – which is me being very very angry and deeply, toxically cynical and to be honest I don’t know what to do with that and I haven’t even got onto this month’s list.
