Today, talking about a prime minister (Keir Starmer) who can’t define what a woman is and yet seems to be content with defining Islamophobia.
Last week I started off my post with giving my first impressions of our new Prime minister, just weeks into the job and already causing deep division in the country that he somehow represents as an elected minister and yet where he seems to act more as a grey and charmless Soviet era apparatchnik. I finished by expressing my reasons why I have moved on from mere intuitive discomfort to informed contempt and in this post I intend to take that one step further in discussing his apparent desire to fall in line with an extremist Islamist group, the Muslim Brotherhood and their push to have the term Islamophobia written into law as a hate crime and thus ensnare, prosecute and imprison those who cross the new line and criticize or merely comment on some facet of the brothers of the Religion of Peace
It is reported that this new government and it’s Prime minister in particular want to bring in new legislation to protect Muslims from criticism – essentially to make it a hate crime hidden in plain sight by the oft used neologism Islamophobia. Given the current way in which the Police and judiciary work I can only see this used against white working class people who for good reason have valid concerns about the religion of Islam and the behavior of some Muslims in this country.
The second side to this is that this government seem to want to invalidate any claims of concern by stating that those concerns or even fears aren’t valid while I and many others would argue that they are very real. I can predict already that this post would be instantly labelled as conspiracy theory and me, a retired nurse, as a far right thug but then our Prime minister does have the hubris and arrogance to create a new definition for Islamophobia while not being able to define what a woman is and while constantly using the far right thug to label and demonize ordinary people but doesn’t have the courage to actually define what he means by far right thug.
This week, as I write, I hear that the government has had to declare ’emergency measures’ because there isn’t enough space left in prisons and I have to assume because they have it in mind that many more users of Facebook, more ‘Tweeters’ and more Youtube content creators are going to be arrested and it seems also already assumed by the legal system to be criminals – many of the aforementioned apparently being ‘advised’ to plead guilty to lessen their custodial sentence.
Is it just me being a deep conspiracy theorist and of course far right thug or does it seem to anyone else that there is a far left master plan now playing out in this country : a recent example of this might be the false flag communication from that side of the house about riots and protests that never actually happened but at each one the antifa/ hard left crowd managed to turn up with professionally produced placards – and what do we make of the far right thugs trope being picked up by every mainstream presenter ?
If you’re wondering why I have gone from being a, usually, hobby-writer and blogger to suddenly a social and political commentator it’s because I haven’t been this angry since the days of Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair : the last time I felt moved to write to an MP was during the Thatcher years and the illegal Police action seen during the, so called, Battle of the Beanfield – that and several other Thatcher actions. Today I spend an awful amount of time that I could otherwise use much more constructively just watching and recording what is happening right now and write about the subject once a week – today I mostly want to talk about the abhorrent language coming from the PM and the home secretary and only at the end of this blog to talk about the misuse of Phobia with regard to Islam in this country.
Being a hobby blogger I have some facility with words and language – not great by any means and today I was stuck for an appropriate term for something that I needed to say – something about the weaponisation of language and, closely related, the use of certain words to instantly shut down debate.
The term weaponisation of language isn’t exactly what I was looking for, what I wanted to demonstrate is how words and language are used first and quickly followed by violence and even death. My 2 easy examples are first, the words and language used by Adolf Hitler in his hate filled rants about the Jews leading to oppression, violence and destruction of property, ultimately towards the Holocaust. My second example is even more recent – the Rwandan civil war between Hutu’s and Tutsi’s where often one side would speech-label the other tribespeople as something less than human (‘dogs’ was one often used) and was only the precursor to physical violence and slaughter. You can see where I am going with this I hope – label your enemy as something less tha fully human and you set up the thought patterns to then go and kill them.
I wonder if Keir Starmer’s use of far right thugs was only his precursor to giving himself, and others, a permission, approval and hunting licence on any people he seems to detest – that’s you and I by the way. Just for a moment go and watch the hate filled appearance of those who parrot the same expressions and wonder what it is that they have in mind. With one Labor councillor it was obvious because he actually said it (cut their throats) although luckily he was both barred from the party and arrested ; I note though that he hasn’t been rushed in front of a Judge or Magistrate unlike many of Starmer’s thoughtcrime enemies.
The next thing that I don’t have an expression for are words that are used to shut down or silence debate – words such as far right, racist or Nazi : our man Starmer seems to use them all of the time – just recently for example he labelled the population of Northern Ireland as clearly racist whereas I suspect he had no desire for actual discourse and to be honest he most likely had nothing constructive to offer. I have to wonder today where his end point is and what he is going to add to the mix to ensnare more ordinary people – from him then Islamophobia of course and from his home secretary the term Misogyny- this from a woman who had already decided or assumed guilt before trial , at least it appears so from her recent 1000 arrests message : doesn’t that constitute contempt of court ?
Why do I think that having a legal definition of Islamophobia is fundamentally wrong ?
I guess this is where I am most likely to get into trouble with the ‘das neue arbeit’ of Labor party politics because I am led to believe that Islam and Muslims seem to be the favored demographic in, so called, the accepted muliculturalism. English common law has always been rooted in the more Christian value of fairness and in practice that translates to not automatically favoring one religious or cultural group over another. Islam, on the other hand seems to act around the world in a much more sectarian and tribal manner where for example non Muslims are regarded as second class citizens and may even have lesser rights in law and some among the Muslim community are pushing for that with the introduction of Sharia law and in being treated as a special case in which they and their religion can’t be questioned or criticized without first being dismissed as Racist/Islamophobic and with the threat of a new legal definition becoming a new class of thought-criminals in the UK.
Looking within the use of the term Phobia has never sat well having come from a background of clinical work where we regarded Phobias as irrational but maybe understood – needle phobia being a common one. A concern or fear of Muslims and Islam isn’t entirely irrational though and we only need to remember the many awful Islamic terror crimes in this country and worldwide to support that contention. Without putting too fine a point on it it is maybe the, so called, far right thugs, that had a hand in the rioting and looting recently although lets remember that we haven’t had a far right political presence since the EDL (English Defence League) shut down. I’m sorry to say that it wasn’t a group of far right thugs who bombed the Ariana Grande concert at Manchester area or murdered the British soldier Lee Rigby on a London street – there are so many more that I can’t list them – anyway our rational concern is that it was Islamists who committed those crimes and today it is Islamists who wish to shut down any spoken or written criticism
