So long and thanks for all the fish !

Goodbye everybody – iv’e got to go” (some bloke with a dodgy mustache)

This morning I was having a quick think about all of the cultural references I could use to signal the end of this blog : from the Doors to Joseph Conrad, best though to aim for simplicity and a lack of pretension, after all I am neither Freddy Mercury or Jim Morrison and certainly not Joseph Conrad.

So- my thanks to the late Douglas Adams (Hitchikers guide for those that didn’t get that one)

A few days ago I got notice via my WordPress account that my yearly update fee would be due soon and having increased it in the last few years due to needing more ‘storage’ I decided to to the glaringly obvious thing and instead cancelled my account.  What that means is this web page (DirtyWetDog) will totally disappear at the beginning of March and as of now I won’t finish any new posts or drafts – there are a few already scheduled so I will leave those a they are.

I should have done this a couple of years ago but continued to write and blog because of Covid but more specifically due to the covid lockdown : I felt that for those people that needed some normalcy there was a good reason to be supplying it. In truth though my blog has been failing in viewing numbers since 2020 and the last few years have been a struggle because I haven’t had much new material to work with and in fact I think my best year (for several reasons) was 2019 when I spent most of the season at sea in Brittany.

The odd thing which is happening right now is that my blog views are declining week by week while my fledgling Youtube channel has stayed relatively popular (by my standards) for the whole Christmas and New Year period – only dropping away now as I guess that most sailing age people head back to work.  Again obvious but I should finally make the necessary jump to an entirely video based blog ,invest in some new camera gear and aim to put out a couple of video segments each month.
