Friday ‘short post’ August 2022
Friday shorts 2.
Hi Everyone, it’s the end of my working week so I thought I would do another end of week short post about just one thing that iv’e been working one.
One of my jobs this week was working out and making the various parts for my anchor stowage , I will be carrying 2 anchors – an 8Kg Admiralty pattern and a 6 Kg Rocna. The Admiralty pattern anchor I intend to use as my primary anchor most of the time and generally I will be using it with an all rope warp – I know some people don’t like that idea but I found that the heavier Admiralty pattern flukes don’t seem to need a catenary sag like the Rocna does.
Anyway, it’s got 2 stowage positions – one on the cockpit sole and one just ahead of the big galley locker on the cuddy space sole. It sits on chocks which are drilled for lashing lines and the forward stowage includes a ‘pit’ for the round head of the cross bar to sit in.
The cockpit chocks also have holes to take the bottom ends of the lashing lines for my water cans.
At this stage my anchor warp is going to be 60 meters of 10mm LSK and that’s going to live flaked down into the yellow climbers rope bag which is quite a neat way of stowing warp ready to go.
When I get to it the Rocna stowage will be just aft of the cuddy to starboard and will have a short length of chain (7 meters) and 50 of anchorplait which will live in an arborists rope bag if I can get the one I want.
I did also play around with side deck stowage for the anchor….iv’e done that with 2 other boats but it didn’t seem to want to work with the Pathfinder. I have yet to work out the anchor warp fairleads forward – I might use low friction rings laced to the bowsprit and bullseyes to lead the warp aft to the anchor cleats which are the mid deck ones…..easy to handle anchors from mid boat I find.
Some pictures from this week.
