Hot and dry.

Friday ‘short’ progress report August 18th 2022

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all well.

It’s been a strange week here because, once more, we’re kind-of officially in a heatwave and semi drought again with several parts of the country under hosepipe bans. When I say ‘heatwave’ and members know that I am talking about the UK I can almost feel our members from some of the US and most of Australia all smirking a bit !.

It has been too warm to work under the shelter from about 11 am because the shelter is in the sun all day – hence the covers being on after about 10 and most of my work happening much earlier in the morning.

The weather has at least partially broken though with odd patchy thunderstorms that bypassed us but gave flooding just a few miles away. This week , at least for the last few days iv’e had to watch the sky very carefully as I had the mast staves out on the build frame and that’s not under the shelter…..mast building is going to get a main post in a few weeks time I hope.

This week I thought I would focus on just the cuddy because I finished the actual construction last week, to the extent of bonding the windows in and finishing the second anchor’s stowage.

I haven’t fitted the cuddy (deck) hardware yet because I can’t really do that until later on when I have the mast built and up and the tabernacle fitted but the 2 unfinished cleats are intended as placeholders to show me where I think the twin main halyards will go – most likely I’ll have my jib, staysail and spinnaker/gennaker halyards there as well……just enough space for 5 cleats in the central grey panel I think.

Main posts….I won’t link to my main post from my blog this week because it’s very ‘salty’ about politics down under and i don’t think here is the place for it…..next week though I should be back with a main blog post either from the build of from my cruising series.

Best wishes Y’awl.

Anyway…..here’s a few pictures from this week’s work.
