Post 1.
Note to readers : the greatest amount of interest in my Pathfinder build posts comes from John Welsford’s social media page (Facebook) where members are building, discussing or sharing ideas and cruising posts from their JW designs. The project posts don’t get much attention as general blog posts unless I hit a certain stage where the build suddenly looks different and when I get some nice pictures to post.
Several members there specifically asked to see more progress photographs as I went along so what I thought to do was write a few lines about the week’s work and post some new pictures with that – I tend to have my camera with me while I work. These aren’t the long posts that I write in my main blog and I begin to think that a short post once a week would work better and wouldn’t clutter John’s page so much that members would get bored with my posts.
What i’m doing with this series of posts is just copy/pasting my post from the JW page straight to here once a week and picking out a few pictures from the week’s work as well.
First post….last week in July 2022.
Friday shorts.
Instead of writing long blog posts every week I need to concentrate on other writing projects so I thought that what I would do is answer the requests to post more pictures by doing a short post with photographs just once a week here.
So, one of this week’s jobs was finishing the Ash cleats, making backing pads where needed, drilling for a dry fit and then boring again to allow an epoxy plug cast for each bolt.
In some of the pictures the deck is masked off around where the cleat will go to allow me to cut the paintwork back for when I bed the cleats down.
My final solution with fasteners is now shown here – the bolts are called low profile ‘mushroom’ heads with a slot for a straight driver.
So far that’s 2 stern/quarter cleats, 2 longer mid deck cleats, one of which will be my primary anchor cleat and a single bow cleat off center on the foredeck….I messed around with a single centerline bow cleat but I might just stay with one off center.
Making cleats in the workshop

2 foredeck cleats and the mid deck cleats on and masked for the finishing paint.

First 2 cuddy top cleats for the rig.
